چکیده

A KNOWLEDGE OF MOLECULAR BIOLOGY in health and disease has been a goal of the modern-day physician. Until recently , understanding of the electrocardio-gram has been based mostly on the sequence and duration of the myocardial activation process. The introduction of the Lmg-Gerard1 microcapillary electrode has permitted a study of the resting and action potential of an individual cell. Consequently , the bases for understanding of the elec-trocardiogram can be re-evaluated by studying the events occurring at the trans-membrane cellular level during depolariza-tion and repolarization. The interior of the resting cell in skeletal, nerve and cardiac tissue is negative with regard to the exterior. What are the factors responsible for the membrane resting potential (MRP) and the membrane action potential (MAP)? Based largely on the study of the squid giant axon, Hodg-kin5 demonstrated that polarization of the cell depends largely on the ionic concentrations of sodium and potassium inside and outside the cell. These lOfliC Concentrations produce an electromotive force which can be calculated and understood from the Nernst equation: E== ln [[ [ ] According to this equation, the potential is directly proportional to the gas constant R, absolute temperature T, and inversely proportional to the Faraday F and propor-*From the Division of Medicine, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. tional to ln (natural log) times the ratio of the ionic concentration inside (i) and outside (o) the cell.

Study on effect of salinity level of water on electrocardiogram and some of blood serum minerals in grass carp, Ctenopharyngodon idella

In this study the effects of salinity on the electrocardiogram and some of blood serum minerals in grass carp were investigated. For this purpose, grass carp were exposed to concentrations of 4, 8 and 12 g L-1 salinities and electrocardiogram of all fish was recorded. Blood samples were also collected from all fish and serum minerals were measured. Our results indicated that mineral ...

Influence of tramadol on anesthesia times, analgesia and electrocardiogram associated with injection anesthesia in common buzzards (Buteo buteo)

A balanced anesthesia protocol is called perfect when it has fast induction, excellent recovery, the least effect on the cardiopulmonary system and sufficient analgesia. Many of anesthetic combinations have an analgesic effect without opioids. However, at the end of anesthesia, analgesia decreases or is incomplete. The purpose of this study was to evaluate anesthesia times, ele...

Effect of Cell Size and Shape on Electric Field Threshold and Critical Transmembrane Voltage for Electroporation

Introduction:  Electroporation  is  a  technique  for  increasing  the  permeability  of  the  cell  membrane  to  otherwise  non-permeate  molecules  due  to  an  external  electric  field.  This  permeability  enhancement  is  detectable if the induced transmembrane voltage becomes greater than a critical value which depends on the  pulse  strength  threshold.  In  this  study,  the  variabil...

Electrocardiogram in Asiatic cholera. Separated studies of effects of hypovolaemia, acidosis, and potassium loss.

Electrocardiographic responses to correction of hypovoltmic shock, to changes in arterial pH, and to alterations in potassium balance have been described under a variety of conditions (Barker, Shrader, and Ronzoni, 1939; Lepeschkin, 1951; Surawicz et al., 1957; Surawicz, 1963; Reid et al., 1965). In many previous studies, however, the electrocardiographic patterns have been influenced by severa...
